This dam is one of the three dams designed and built by JPS in 1925 as part of an integrated tailing retention scheme for the Bentong area. It is located about 14km from Bentong town alongside the Bentong-Raub road. Prior to this scheme, silt and tailings from the tin mine in the Bentong hills used to come down the Repas, Leboh and Perting streams, choking the river until Bentong town flooded after heavy storm. The dam comprises an earthfill embankment and a box spillway inlet structure. Its inlet structure was raised several times after construction as upstream levels continued to build up at a fast rate as a result of mining activities. However by the fifties, serious erosion and seepage problems cropped up in the dam and a plan to raise its spillway inlet to its designed level had to be abandoned. The construction of a new dam at some suitable location downstream was planned instead. Accordingly the New Repas dam was constructed in the early sixtees about 610m downstream of the Old Repas dam.
